The Richards Memorial Library Youth Advisory Council (YAC)

November 2020-March 2021 Session

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at the Richards Memorial Library helps shape the Young Adult book collection by voting on upcoming book releases, decorating and selecting a monthly book display, and voting on upcoming programs.

This year’s session will run differently than past years. It will run remotely and be limited to 8 teens. Members will receive a monthly Google form with short summaries of upcoming teen book releases and rate each summary. The forms will be emailed on a set date and should be read and rated by the end of that week. We will NOT be using any video conferencing to make this even more convenient and flexible.

Teens will have the option to pick up, read, and give feedback on Advanced Reader Copies of upcoming teen books (a perk to the council!). Teens can also pick a month to decorate the display board in the Young Adult room. Neither is mandatory.

Last year, YAC teens who attended the high school were able to apply their YAC hours towards the community service requirement. If the high school has this requirement again this year, and if they agree that YAC still counts towards the program, hours will be applied based on participation.

To apply to be a member of YAC, please fill out this form https://forms.gle/b7k9dcAxGHwqbSHt7 by November 7. You must be between the ages of 13-17 and commit to participating remotely each month from November-March.
