Prof. Gary Hylander is back with another 3-part series on American History. As the nation moved west, politicians hotly debated over whether slavery should be allowed to expand into the new territories.  Northern Abolitionists warned of a “slave power conspiracy” that sought to control Congress while Southerners threatened to secede from the Union and establish the Confederate States of America.  Extremists, both North and the South, drowned out the voices of those who sought compromise.  War followed in April 1861. Reservations required.
