SAILS System

Richards Memorial Library is part of the SAILS system of libraries. The 50+ libraries in the system all recognize the green ABLE or blue SAILS card. If you are a registered member at one library, your card is good at all of the libraries. Materials borrowed at one library can be returned to any of the other libraries except for museum passes and some of the special materials from the Hockomock Collection. There is a book drop box located at the front of the building for after-hours returns. Please note, however, that all video, dvd, cd and audio cassettes must be returned inside the library.

Loan Periods and Policies

Each SAILS library sets its own loan periods. Our policies are set to encourage the most possible use of high demand items. If you have extenuating circumstances such as a family trip, please discuss your needs with the circulation staff. You may renew any item once (except ILL items) as long as there are no holds on the item.

3 Days New Magazines
7 Days Videos and DVDs
14 Days New books; Picture Books; Instructional/Nonfiction Videos; Audio Books; CDs; Older Magazines
28 Days Older Fiction and Nonfiction for Adults and Children

Fines are 5¢ a day for books, magazines and cassettes up to a maximum of $2 per item and $1 a day for videos up to a maximum of $5 per item. Senior citizens are exempt from fines. We accept non-perishable food goods for the Town Food Bank in lieu of fines all year round. The cost of the food or items should be equivalent to the fines owed. Make sure to stop at the desk with the food and your library card so that the fine is taken off your record.

Lost or damaged items may not be paid for with food and include a surcharge for processing a replacement.

All of the libraries in the system reserve the right to deny reservation and borrowing privileges. Over $10 in fines or excess overdue books will automatically deny you privileges.
