The travel books about South American Countries are in the 918s. The history books are in the 980s. These will provide a great deal of information on a variety of topics. However, there is usually only one book on each country in each area so the books might be out. You can reserve the books on the computer, but allow yourself at least 4 days if the books aren't checked out already. If the books are checked out (not available) you probably will not get them for a month.

Online resources: You may be able to get most of the information you need at the Lonely Planet site, http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/ . It has information about money, attractions, history, culture. The printable version gives all the information without the side graphics.
